3 Things To Look For In A Work Truck For Your Lawn Care Business

Posted on: 19 January 2019

Starting a lawn care business can be a lucrative way to earn a living, but this line of business will take a few investments. Of course, you will have to invest in mowing equipment, but you will also need a good truck to haul everything and get to the customers who need your services. Buying a used work truck is a good solution, and these can usually be found hanging around at some auto dealers. The thing is, buying a truck that you plan to use for a lawn care business should take some careful consideration. Here are a few things to look for while you shop.

Look for a truck that offers the towing capacity you need.

All trucks have a towing capacity that shows you how much weight the truck can safely tow or haul. Look at what you will be hauling on a given day out mowing, such as your lawnmower, weedeater, and the trailer you haul everything in, and find out the total weight. Check the towing capacity of any work truck you are considering to make sure the vehicle can safely tow the amount of weight that you will have to haul.

Look for a truck that is recognizable as a business truck.

Most trucks can be altered in certain ways to make them boast an appearance that is a little more business worthy. However, some used work trucks you find may be already customized for another line of business, which can make it difficult to make the truck look like it coincides with your business of lawn care. While you shop, look for a truck that is either going to be easily customized with business signage or is otherwise going to fall in line with what a customer expects to see. For instance, you're probably not going to look very professional if you pull in at a customer's home in a truck that is designed for off-roading.

Look for a truck that is going to be reliable for the long term.

Buying a truck specifically to help you operate your business is a costly investment, and you do not want something that will need a lot of work or has high mileage and will not be very reliable. When you are towing equipment and have customer needs to meet, it is incredibly important to have a work truck that is going to serve you and your business in a reliable fashion. Spending a little more money upfront will save you money down the road.
